my creative/crafty kid!

after seeing a short news story about a guy that makes paper dolls ken retreated to her room for hours asking for various supplies . . . cardboard, paper, glue. . . with the strict rule that no little kids were allowed in her room. she designed a little group of dolls (complete with fashion changes!), a house, a couch, a toilet, and several other odds and ends! she is so darn creative!

we picked the coldest day EVER to release our sweet butterflies. i think it was 54! but the kids did not want to wait another day! it was awesome to watch their faces as they let the butterflies go . . . what an amazing experience for the kids. b.c. wasn't sure he wanted to touch his (and i was scared he would smash it!) so he kind of put his hand near mine and watched! kam was amazed that hers wanted to crawl right up her arm! mck's hung out on her forever . . . it was almost as if she was saying she didn't want to go! and ken's flew away . . . but not too far so she had the chance to pick her up and hang out a bit longer. i think we'll wait a few months and do this all over again.

disney princess on ice

the ultimate girl outing! :) a trip to disney on ice! :) the girls were thrilled that their cousin s, and missy, and friend gh got to come along! it was a great afternoon! :) everyone dressed in pink, carried their wand, and snacked out on lots of sugar! :) they watched so intently! it was so cool to see how magical it was for them! :) kam stared dreamily at almost every princess! mck and ken loved the dancing and the cool tricks! :) can't wait to have a girls' day again soon! thanks missy and tim for coming! :)

mck's field trip

mck got to spend the day at the farm . . . and i got to go along too! :) it was a beautiful day and a great little farm . . . and so much fun to see mck with her friends. i thought she would be really clingy but i think her friends wanted to hold my hand more than she did! they saw a cow being milked, took a hayride, saw all sorts of animals, found fairies in the forest, and got up-close to the longhorns! :) what a wonderful experience for the kids! mck was so happy i got to go along . . . so was i.

easter 2011

easter 2011 will go down as one of the best! :) what an amazing weekend the kids have had! :) the fun started friday afternoon with the "peeping" and continued through the weekend! the kids LOVED coloring eggs this year and were so much more independent! it was fun to watch ken and mck coming up with designs for their eggs . . . while kam and b.c. just loved that they got to be involved! :)
the kids woke up easter morning to eggs in their slippers . . . build-a-bear gift cards for the girls (yes, i am a glutton for punishment) and a bulldozer car for b.c.! :) then it was downstairs for easter basket opening . . . holy crow. it was almost christmas! :) buckets of goodies from us including new towels and bathing suits . . . and baskets with goodies from mr. e.b. himself! :) wow. these kids are spoiled! :)
then it was outside for easter egg hunting. NO ONE needed help. we just got to point out the occasional missed egg. . . and stand back and watch them having fun! this year the eggs were filled with money, hair "goodies", fruit snacks, and gum . . . we were candied out from the peeping! :) we had a confetti egg fight and just enjoyed the morning! :)

then it was time to get dressed up and head to . . . a baseball game! :) the kids had a great time, but it sure was HOT! :) we sat on the grass, walked around a lot, and just enjoyed the day! :) then it was dinner out (yay! no cooking!) and some time at home to relax. what a perfect day!

mck's special day with a friend

mck got her special birthday day with her friend g. they had a sleepover and watched barbie and chatted and giggle until pretty late! :) they woke up super early and played american girl dolls for a LONG time! :) it is so nice that they get along so well! :) then it was off to bulid-a-bear for the real fun! :) we ate lunch at chick-fil-a, rode the merry-go-round, and stuffed new friends! :) mck made a cute flowered bunny . . . named daisy! they had a great time making their animals . . . but maybe had more fun riding the escalator! :) (i think my kids may need to get out more . . . it was cute how much fun they had!) :)
(both girls have said what perfect birthdays they have had! the best part is we did the least amount this year . . . simple family parties, out to dinner, and a special day with a friend! it is great that it doesn't take much to make them happy!)

earth day!

the girls and i took a trip to the local recycling plant on earth day with our girl scout troop! they got to see how everything is sorted, decorate reusable bags, tour the facility, and play on a brand new garbage truck! :) it was a great afternoon. . . and a great motivator for us to start recycling! already we have gone from two full trash cans and a pile of trash . . . to one trash can and 2 bins of recyclable materials! :) YAY! :)

we got peeped!

omg. this was the coolest thing ever! some sweet friends and their bible study group "peeped" our yard . . . covering it with more than 1000 peeps, 300 eggs and more than 15 pounds of candy! it was CRAZY but so wonderful! :) the kids were in heaven. ken tried to collect as much as she could, mck looked for things she would like (purple peeps!), kam jusst enjoyed grabbing and eating as much as possible, and b.c. tried to look sneaky as he pulled peeps up and ate them right off the stick! even rocky, s'mores, and cooper got in on the treats! :) what an amazing afternoon! :) this is something the kids will talk about for a very long time! thanks miss j and miss b! we love you! :)

kam's poppyfest performance

ooooh. so sweet! :) kam danced in her first performance ever to "a you're adorable" at the g'town poppyfest! she was so excited about it and couldn't wait to get up there. she did such a great job and looked even cuter! :) ooooh! i cannot wait to see her in her costume!

dancin' in the street

we met our wonderful friends down on the square for some fun music (an 80's cover band) and dancing! the kids had a blast . . . running, dancing, being silly! it was a great night! we topped the evening off with gourmet cupcakes and glow sticks! :) happy kids!

ken's second grade program

what a fun performance! :) "that's all folk!" was a cool collection of folk songs and dances by the second grade classes. the kids looked like they were having so much fun it was impossible not to smile! :) ken was SO excited about the evening! :) and to make everything just a little bit sweeter, susan and her family came to watch too! :) ken felt so special! :) we all went for ice cream afterwards. a perfect evening!

mck turns SIX

mck awoke to a room filled with purple balloons and streamers! :) (she was still a little sleepy as she unwrapped the first of her gifts . . . coordinating outfits for her and her new doll and of course several books! then we headed downstairs where, just like ken, she only got to see her wrapped gifts! :) she did get to check out her new bike and take it for a spin around the house. it is SOOOOO her . . .purple, pink, and girly! :)

we had donuts and balloons and sang happy birthday . . .then it was off to school! :) kam, b.c. and i brought her lunch from mcd's . . . of course! :) and tinkerbell and rapunzel cupcakes for her class! :) she was beaming! :)

in the evening we opened presents, went to dinner. . . cici's! . . .complete with dessert! :) then it was time to play with her new goodies until bedtime! :) what a great day! :)

a visit with uncle wayne

my uncle wayne was here on business so the kids and i got to hang out with him for the afternoon! :) we picked him up at work, grabbed some amy's ice cream, and headed to play on the cows! the kids had a great afternoon and loved seeing wayne again! the girls think he is just hilarious with his awesome laugh and b.c. thinks he is so cool. b.c. wanted nothing to do with me while at the cows . ...it was all uncle wayne! :) can't wait till the next time he gets to visit!

park time with g&g

what a beautiful day for some park time with g&g before they headed home. we brought a picnic to one of our favorite parks and hung out for a couple hours! :) it was great. it was so fun to see all four kiddos playing so independently of each other . . . climbing, swinging, jumping, and balancing. it is so cool to see b.c. thinking he can keep up with the big kids! :) they had fun showing off to g&g! :) and of course the afternoon wouldn't be complete without a little meltdown . . . ken freaked out about a bug (and daddy snapped the great picture - above and to the left!) :)

celebrating the big SIX!

we celebrated a little early with g&g with a cookout and a super yummy tinkerbell cake . . . although i think the cake was upstaged by this amazing candle from ms. j (thank you!). it was a great afternoon . . . mck only opened one present today . . . sure to be her favorite . . . an american girl doll. she was thrilled! :) it looks a lot like her . . . right down to the purple clothes and the earrings! :) she was in heaven! :) what a great start to a week of birthday celebrating! :)

time to skate!

ken and mck got to go roller skating for the first time at their sweet friend g's birthday party. they spent the first half of the party hanging on the sides pulling themselves around. . . and the second half of the party getting brave and letting go! just when they were getting good it was time to head home. i think their may be some roller skates in our not to distant future!

ken's rodeo field trip

we caught a glimpse of ken heading to the bus for her second grade field trip to the austin rodeo! she said it was wonderful . . . although when asked what was wonderful, she couldn't really say! :) she said they were late getting there, the tour guide didn't know what they were doing, they missed a few things . . . but it was a day away from school! :) and she liked eating in the arena! :) what fun! :)

mck"s kinder texas day!

mck was so excited for a fun day at school . . . texas day! she dressed in her cowgirl best (minus the boots which were too small!) and headed to school! kam, b.c., and i headed up for a peek at the fun! :) we got to see her square dance . . . ooooh! so cute. she did great with a sweet old man dressed in green! we watched her with a pony and listening to a real cowboy singing songs. she loved making a bandanna and the hay ride! what a great celebration of texas! :)
