k's choir performance

ken's first choir performance was wonderful! she loves choir and is so enthusiastic about learning all these new songs! the performance was a great collection of holiday songs from around the world. . . so mck, kam, and b.c. enjoyed learning new songs too! the performance was even more special because ms. s. and her family came to watch . . . ken felt so special! then it was home for coffee and dessert with everyone.

halloween sleepover

this may be our new halloween tradition! the girls had been asking for a halloween party . . . i kept putting it off because they wanted to invite a few too many people . . . so, rather last minute, we decided a halloween sleepover with a few friends! the girls ALL got along, had a great time, and even got a little sleep! we ate jack-o-lantern pizza, had color changing drinks (some of the girls really thought it was magic!), decorated cookies and cupcakes, played hide and seek, made masks, painted pumpkins and fingernails . . . and then had pumpkin face pancakes in the morning! what a fun party it was!

aunt sarah drove from nac to see the girls and have lunch with them at school. it's become an annual tradition. they were so excited to see their cool, young aunt stroll into school! thanks aunt sarah!

the g'town pep rally!

ken and mck got to walk out on the field at the g'town homecoming pep rally! they were so excited! we hung around to watch some of the rally and the girls were mesmerized as they announced the homecoming nominees . . . and saw the real cheerleaders do their thing. what a cool night!

our little cheerleaders

ken and mck are giving cheer a try this fall! we joined a little late so we had so catching up to do, but they are having lots of fun learning all the cheers. ken catches on really quickly to the words . . . and mck just looks like a cheerleader. it's really kind of cute to see them busting out with cheers all the time . . . in the backseat, at the dinner table, while outside playing! this is a fun change for them!

first day of school 2011

reality hit at 6:15 this morning when i had to get the girls up and ready for their first day of first and third grade. summer is officially over.
ken and mck looked adorable in their coordinating (not matching - their choice!) outfits. so grown up! daddy had to miss out on the first day chaos because of a dr. appt. in houston, so we had to snap extra pictures for him. the girls were good sports even though it was so early. they wanted to make sure daddy saw how cute they looked!
we had special sprinkle donuts then loaded up to take the girls to school and walk them to their classes. they knew just where to go and just what to do. they were happy to have us there, but didn't need me. i sure do hate this growing up stuff . . . but it is awesome to see my two beautiful confident kiddos strolling into their classrooms.
in the evening we celebrated with a dinner of mac and cheese and hot dogs (their choice) and special cupcakes that the little kids and i made. it was a perfect start to a great school year!

ken's mommy date

"mom and i went and got TONS of dog stuff because I am getting a new puppy! it was a big surprise that i was even getting the dog. it was so much fun! we even got him a little outfit. after shopping we went to starbucks. i got a vanilla bean frappucino. it was the best day ever! i can't wait till my next mommy date!"

camp crestview 2011

we returned home from houston just in time for the girls to head to camp! they were so excited. it is the most amazing day camp . . . full of fun, bible studies, singing, and more fun! both the girls had a wonderful week and made some new friends too! it was so wonderful to see ken being so protective of mck when they headed to camp each day! they were excited to be doing something without the rest of us! i sure missed them each day!

our artist

wow. our little ken had a piece featured in the school district art show at southwestern university ! (and for the second time!!!) :) we all had to go to take a peek! :) ken LOVES art. . . that may be an understatement. the highlight of her school week is art class . . . she loves the class, loves her teacher, loves the projects! so she was beyond thrilled that she was picked. her piece was a really cool watercolor picture . . . a seascape with a fish stamped in the middle. we cannot wait to hang it on the wall!

my creative/crafty kid!

after seeing a short news story about a guy that makes paper dolls ken retreated to her room for hours asking for various supplies . . . cardboard, paper, glue. . . with the strict rule that no little kids were allowed in her room. she designed a little group of dolls (complete with fashion changes!), a house, a couch, a toilet, and several other odds and ends! she is so darn creative!

earth day!

the girls and i took a trip to the local recycling plant on earth day with our girl scout troop! they got to see how everything is sorted, decorate reusable bags, tour the facility, and play on a brand new garbage truck! :) it was a great afternoon. . . and a great motivator for us to start recycling! already we have gone from two full trash cans and a pile of trash . . . to one trash can and 2 bins of recyclable materials! :) YAY! :)

ken's second grade program

what a fun performance! :) "that's all folk!" was a cool collection of folk songs and dances by the second grade classes. the kids looked like they were having so much fun it was impossible not to smile! :) ken was SO excited about the evening! :) and to make everything just a little bit sweeter, susan and her family came to watch too! :) ken felt so special! :) we all went for ice cream afterwards. a perfect evening!

time to skate!

ken and mck got to go roller skating for the first time at their sweet friend g's birthday party. they spent the first half of the party hanging on the sides pulling themselves around. . . and the second half of the party getting brave and letting go! just when they were getting good it was time to head home. i think their may be some roller skates in our not to distant future!

ken's rodeo field trip

we caught a glimpse of ken heading to the bus for her second grade field trip to the austin rodeo! she said it was wonderful . . . although when asked what was wonderful, she couldn't really say! :) she said they were late getting there, the tour guide didn't know what they were doing, they missed a few things . . . but it was a day away from school! :) and she liked eating in the arena! :) what fun! :)

my sweet eight year old!

my sweet, sweet girl! how are you already eight years old. i am not sure where the time is going. i can remember when i first met you. so teeny tiny, so beautiful, so amazing! you have made us smile from the moment we saw you! you have grown into such a cool kid! you are so mature. so wonderful with your siblings. you are so smart and so talented. you love school. you love books! you stay up late reading almost every night . . . unless you are too tired. you love to be outside and aren't afraid to get dirty . . . but you also love to dress up and be girly! you love to write and make up songs and stories and poems! you love to dance and turn your music up way too loud! you are such a big helper! you are strong and independent, but still love hugs! :) we are so lucky to know you our sweet oldest one! :) what a great example you are for your sisters and brother. i am so proud of you! happy birthday ken! we love you so much!

ken turns EIGHT!

the birthday girl woke up to a room filled with balloons and streamers! she was a happy kid! :) ken opened her first present . . . the usual! a birthday outfit and a book! :) she loved the outfit . . . and i messed up on the book. she had already read it. oops! :) then it was downstairs . . . where she got to see all of her gifts wrapped up . . . but only got one! HER BIKE! :) she fell in love with this bike when she first saw it and talked about it for weeks . . . so it was really cool to surprise her with it! she took a few laps around inside the house! :) we sang happy birthday and she got her favorite breakfast . . . kolaches and donuts . . . thanks to an early morning donut run by daddy! :) sadly, it was a school day, but the second she got home ken was riding her bike! :) she looked pretty cute on it too! :) when daddy got home we did presents. she got a new sleeping bag (because she hated the slipperiness of all the ones we had!), an orbeez lamp, some clothes, and a craft kit! then it was off to mama fu's for dinner (yay! she didn't choose mc d's!)! :) when i tucked ken in at night she told me this had been "the best birthday ever!". wow.

ken's birthday fun with a friend!

ken is turning eight. (so hard to believe!) this year we opted for having a birthday treat with a friend for each of the kiddos . . . it was such a hit last year! :) ken asked to have her bestest friend g over to spend the night! the girls had a great time just being silly! they watched a movie and stayed up late . . . and included the little girls in all the fun! :) in the morning they had donuts and did crafts and then it was off to build-a-bear! ken picked a cool rocker bear that she can plug her mp3 into! :) way cool! the girls picked outfits for their bears and got them all registered! then we hit the food court for some lunch and dessert! :) ken couldn't wait to get home to show off her newest build-a-bear! :) the countdown is on to the big birthday day! :)

valentines on our own

wow . . . what a difference this year. my two big girls took their valentines and headed to their room to do their valentines all by themselves . . . they didn't want any help, guidance, direction. uh. so sad! ken took a lot of time trying to write hers nice and neat . . . making sure each one was assembled the right way . . . complete with a silly band! mck had little disney card games to give out and wrote her name on each one complete with a good "girl or boy picture" to go along with it! :) her little pen drawings were adorable! :) hard to imagine in just a few years they will all be doing everything on their own. . .

my nerdy girl!

these are the books ken came home from the library with today . . . "comfort foods" and "the alamo". hmmmm. not only did she choose these books she grabbed them out of her bag when she got home and couldn't wait to show me! :) she had already looked through the recipe book and found lots of stuff she thought we should make . . . and was extremely excited to get into the alamo book because there was stuff about "david crockett" in there and she learned about him in school. too funny! gotta love my little nerdy girl! :)

a double sleepover!

a sleepover is fun . . . but a double sleepover is twice as fun! :) ken and mck had a blast with their sister friends m and g! (could it be any more perfect that they also have 3 and 1 year old siblings?!!) the girls ate pizza, played, watched tinkerbell, ate popcorn and candy, read stories, chatted, and played come more! what a fun way to spend a friday night! :)
